STAFF REPORT

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pink Heals pink fire trucks once again rolled into San Marcos Friday morning.

The trucks were slated to arrive at Central Texas Medical Center, 1301 Wonder World Drive, at 10 a.m. The trucks will then proceed to the Embassy Suites San Marcos, 1001 East McCarty Lane, at 11 a.m. for the annual Pink Heals Rally.

There will be vendors promoting the need for early cancer detection, as well as guest speakers and motivational cancer survivor stories. Residents are encouraged to wear pink Friday to show their support for cancer research and prevention.

San Marcos firefighters and police officers have been selling pink T-shirts to raise funds for cancer research. The proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and some community organizations that help patients recover from various stages of cancer.

Some San Marcos CISD campuses also are participating by wearing pink for the day.

Drivers should be aware that the 100 block of East San Antonio Street, between North LBJ Drive and South Guadalupe Street, will be closed from 7 -10 a.m. for the Pink Heals pink fire trucks, which will be parked on the street.
