The Opening Door Dance Theatre will celebrate its 26th anniversary with performances Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Evans Auditorium on the campus of Texas State.
Opening Door is the resident professional dance company within the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State, featuring faculty, alumni and guest choreography with Texas State dancers.
“In the program, you will experience a slap-stick dance about hair; an elegant, abstract ballet; a quirky group-dance utilizing energetic tosses through space; and a poignant dance, entitled ‘Letting Go,’ which showcases human relationships and vulnerability,” said Michelle Nance, associate professor and choreographer in the Department of Theatre and Dance.
Featured choreographers include Ana Baer-Carillo, Cari Cunningham, Tammy Fife, Michelle Nance, Kaysie Seitz Brown and Leanne Smith.
“Cunningham has set an 11-minute dance on 13 Texas State dancers,” said Nance. “The dancers don head lamps, making the beams of light the focal point of the dance.”
The Opening Door Dance Theatre was founded in 1984 by Karen Earl, Sandy Rodriguez and LeAnne Smith, students who wanted more professional opportunities to dance.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students. Cash only.
