Jimmy Duran Lopez.
State District Judge Jack Robison sentenced convicted child molester Jimmy Duran Lopez to 18 life sentences Monday after Lopez pleaded guilty to 13 counts of aggravated sexual assault and five counts of sexual assault of a child.
Robison also ordered Lopez to pay $100,000 in restitution to his victim for the lifetime of counseling she will undergo to cope with the trauma of the offenses. Robison ordered that four of the life sentences run consecutively.
Lopez had plead guilty on Aug. 23 in a case of abuse that began when the child was eight years old and continued for a period of six years. Lopez faced a sentence of 25 years to life on each count.
Hays County Assistant District Attorney Amy Lockhart said Lopez had effectively taken the childhood of the victim and urged the court to “forever end Duran’s ability to abuse children.”
Lopez, 39, will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 120 years.
