Texas State’s volleyball team lost all three matches it played during the weekend at the Southern Methodist University/Doubletree Invitational in Dallas.
It was a weekend of close losses for the Bobcats. Of nine games they lost, they lost five of them by three points or fewer.
The Bobcats finished their effort Saturday, losing in five games to Texas Tech by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25 and 15-13). Though the Bobcats won just about every statistical category, then made 13 service errors, compared to five for Texas Tech. AJ Watlington had 20 kills for the Bobcats against Texas Tech
Freshman right side hitter Amari Deardorff was named to the all-tournament team for Texas State after hitting .309 with 41 kills in three matches.
“It means a lot because it’s only my second tournament,” Deardorff said.
Texas State opened the tournament last Friday with a five-game loss to California-Davis by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 13-25, 25-23 and 15-10. Deardorff led the Bobcats with 20 kills, followed by Watlington with 15 and Preslie Alexander with 15.
Later Friday, the Bobcats lost in four games to Southern Methodist by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-20.
The Bobcats, 2-4, will play their first home match of the season Tuesday against Prairie View A&M at Strahan Coliseum (6:30 p.m.).
