STAFF REPORT

San Marcos Academy (SMA) students started school again Monday after their summer break. Teachers and residence life staff, however, began their “schooling” and training last week.

Public schools are back in session next week, with San Marcos CISD starting on Aug. 23.

Lindy Lyles, a behavioral specialist for the Region 13 Service Center, and SMA President Dr. John Garrison welcomed teachers back to campus on Aug. 9. Garrison delivered his annual “State of the Academy” address and Lyles spoke to the staff on the “Passionate Pursuit of Excellence.”

The rest of the week was spent in preparation for the return of the students and included “in-service” training.

Some students, however, were already on the campus before the school year started participating in football, volleyball, cheerleading and drum major camps in anticipation of the new school year.
