The Bear Club of San Marcos Academy welcomed new Texas Lutheran University (TLU) head football coach Danny Padron to their monthly networking meeting last week at Quail Creek Country Club in San Marcos.
A 1983 Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) graduate, Padron brings more than 38 years of coaching experience to the Bulldogs, all in the San Antonio area. At San Antonio O’Connor High School, he posted a 65-30 record, including seven straight playoff berths and four district champions in eight seasons. In 2003, the San Antonio Express-News named him San Antonio Area Coach of the Year.
“We are all about our players at TLU,” Padron said. “We have lots of passion and experience this year for the Bulldogs. We want to help young men become better persons and students … We will be a better conditioned and prepared team this year.”
The Bulldogs compete in the American Southwest Conference, which includes teams from Mississippi to Texas. TLU opens the season Sept 4 on the road aginst the Kangaroos of Austin College.
The Bear Club’s next speaker will be Texas State head football coach Brad Wright at the Sept. 16 meeting at Quail Creek.
The SMA Bear Club consists of representatives from about 80 local businesses in San Marcos and surrounding communities who volunteer their time to help support the athletic program at SMA. Members and guests meet monthly to share ideas, contacts and business referrals. More information on Bear Club opportunities is available on the Academy website at www.smabears.org.Email | Print
