081710hebSTAFF REPORT

Representatives from H-E-B and the Hays County Food Bank will gather at the “big”  H-E-B, 641 East Hopkins Street, for a formal check presentation Tuesday at 10 a.m. A check in the amount of $3,000 will be presented to the food back as a result of the H-E-B “Help End Hunger” tear pad campaign which ran from May 12 to June 28.

More than 20,160 meals will be made available to hungry Hays County families as a result of the campaign.

The tear-off coupons, located at the check out area of H-E-B grocery stores, allow customers to add donations of $1, $3 or 5$ to their grocery bills.

H-E-B customers raised $322,500, along with H-E-B’s “round-up” donation, this year. The money will benefit 15 food banks in Texas. The  “Help End Hunger” program supports 26 food banks throughout Texas and Mexico, which, in turn, serve more than 5,000 organizations.

H-E-B donated more than 26.5 million pounds of products valued at $36 million dollars last year. The successful “Help End Hunger” program gives customers the opportunity to help their local food banks fight the hunger facing thousands of needy families while shopping for their own groceries.
