STAFF REPORT

Hays County Crime Stoppers is assisting the Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in solving the case of 33 headstones that were vandalized in the Kyle Cemetery in June.

The vandalism was discovered on June 26, at about 2:30 p.m., when a person went to the cemetery to pay respects to a recently deceased family member. The cemetery is located in the 2300 block of Old Stagecoach Road between Kyle and San Marcos.

Finding several headstones lying on the ground, the cemetery visitor called the HCSO. Deputies and detectives from the HCSO Criminal Investigation Division responded and began an investigation, counting 33 defaced grave sites as part of a vandalism spree that covered most of the cemetery’s south side.

The HCSO has no leads in the case and is requesting help from the public. Anyone with information that could help the HCSO solve the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 324-TIPS (8477). Information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s), could result in a cash award of up to $1,000 for the informant. All calls are totally confidential and all callers will remain anonymous. Callers do not have to give their names and will not have to testify in court.
