Mayor recognized by Gary Job Corps

San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz accepts the Community Supporter of the Year award from Gary Job Corps Director Dean Hoffman.

San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz recently was presented the “Community Supporter of the Year” award by Gary Job Corps Director Dean Hoffman. Narvaiz was given the award in recognition of her ongoing support for the Job Corps Center, 2800 Airport Highway.

Narvaiz was honored for her advocacy of the program at the state, local and national levels and for mentoring students at the center.

Established in 1965 by President Lyndon Johnson, the Gary Job Corps is the oldest and the largest of the 124 Job Corps centers in the nation. The center offers more than 20 career technical training opportunities for eligible youth aged 16-24.

The award was bestowed by Management and Training Corporation, the operator of the center. The center is overseen by the Dallas Regional Office of Job Corps.
