The body of a 22-year-old San Marcos man who disappeared Thursday evening while tubing with friends was pulled from the Guadalupe River this afternoon.

Drivers from the San Marcos Area Recovery Team pulled the body of Travis Janik from 14 feet of water near Edwards Drive at about 2:30 p.m., said Dan Misiaszek, the team’s spokesperson. New Braunfels firefighters had searched unsuccessfully for Janik’s body on Friday.

Janik disappeared late Thursday while traveling down the river in a flotilla that included an inflatable raft and a kayak. His friends were unsure when he was last seen, creating a large search area stretching upstream from Priess Heights Park.

The Comal Sheriff’s office is investigating the death. Officials think alcohol was a factor.

Janik was a recent graduate of commercial diving school, Misiazek said, and some of his classmates assisted in the search for his body.
