Texas State's Common Experience calls for sustainability art and projects

STAFF REPORT

The Common Experience is an initiative at Texas State every year that is intended to cultivate a common intellectual conversation between students, staff and the community. Each year the theme of the program tackles a new topic. The Common Experience for 2010-2011 is  “Sustainability: Science, Policy, and Opportunity.”

Launching the campus-wide theme at Texas State, the Gallery of Common Experience plans to showcase area artists, groups and organizations with goals and projects that focus on sustainability. Artists and organizations with these goals are asked to submit up to 10 digital images of artwork or projects that reflect their ideas, hopes and inspirations, or examples of their contributions to sustainability.

The Gallery of Common Experience will use these images in an exhibit intended to explore the the varied range of sustainability and its subtopics. The topics can run from  happiness to architecture, water quality to world peace, cultural identity to human relationships and permaculture. Interpretations are welcomed from all perspectives.

The digital images should be sent as joint photographic expert group formats (JPEGs) and will be accepted through Aug. 13. Notification of selections will be sent by e-mail on Aug. 16. Selected works should be delivered to the gallery between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Aug. 22 or Aug. 23. The exhibit will be on display through Dec. 15, 2010.

The Gallery of Common Experience is located in the Honors Program in the Lampasas Building. The works will be seen by hundreds of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the Texas State campus.

Send submission or questions about the exhibit to the gallery’s curator Linda Kelsey-Jones at ljk@centurytel.net.
