Former First Lady of Houston and noted author Andrea White will speak at the Wimberley Community Center on August 7.
Andrea White, novelist and wife of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White, will speak in Wimberley at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 Ranch Road 12, on August 7 at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
White will talk about her latest book, P.S. Passionate Supporter and Political Spouse. The book is a collection of personal stories about her life as a political wife and supporter of her husband. White was the First Lady of Houston from 2004 to Jan.1, 2010.
Educated at the University of Texas as an attorney, White may be best know for her books for teens, Surviving Antarctica, Window Boy and Radiant Girl.
Her book Surviving Antarctica won the Texas Bluebonnet Award in 2006 and won the Golden Spur Children’s Literature award given by the Texas State Reading Association. Window Boy is the story of a boy in a wheelchair with a rich mental life and includes the surprising character of Winston Churchill. The Chernobyl disaster is the backdrop for the adventure Radiant Girl.
White also initiated a program in Houston with her husband aimed at keeping more students in school,” Expectation Graduation.”
