Hundreds attend CTMC’s first BabyFest

SUBMITTED REPORT

Central Texas Medical Center hosted its first annual BabyFest on Sunday, July 11 at CTMC’s new Women’s Center.

More than 300 new mothers, mothers-to-be and a number of young children attended this free community event that included mini-tours of the new Childbirth Center, ‘Health Talks’ from clinical professionals, children’s activities and more than 30 exhibitors offering services and resources for young families.

“We were pleased to see so many moms and moms-to-be join us for our newest community event,” said Gary Jepson, CTMC’s president and chief executive officer. “The philosophy of our new Women’s Center is to educate expecting families and bring them every resource they need.”

In late 2009, CTMC completed a $35 million expansion and renovation on a 64,000 square feet Women’s Center that includes all private rooms, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a new cardiac inpatient nursing unit with all private rooms. It also includes two on-site, cesarean section suites.

Exhibitors at BabyFest included AMEDA, Austin Mommies, B&J Pharmacy, Caring Center for Women, Corridor Primary Care, CTMC Cradle of Care, CTMC Rehabilitation Services, April Todd (Doula), Fireside Photography, CTMC Gift Shop, CTMC Medical Imaging, Mother’s Milk Bank, Perfect Gift, Similac, Strasburg Children and Superior Health Plan.

“We believe that it was a huge success for us and allowed us to branch out and meet and educate participants about the B&J Pharmacy,” said Rebecca Cable, B&J Pharmacy marketing manager.

In November, the Women’s Center at CTMC is also planning its first annual Baby’s Birthday Party for all babies born on the new hospital in the past year. For more information and photos from this event, please visit www.ctmc.org and click on the BabyFest logo.
