Texas State baseball players Jeff McVaney and Donnie Hart recently were named all-stars in their summer baseball leagues.
McVaney recently completed his sophomore season at Texas State, batting .350 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI. For the Santa Barnara Foresters in the California Collegiate League this summer, he is batting .361, though he’s still looking for his first homer. He heads the team with two triples while striking out just seven times in 72 at-bats.
McVaney’s bat has helped the Foresters to a 20-7 record and first place in the California Collegiate League (CCL) standings.
Hart has been done a little bit of everything on the mound for the Westhampton Aviators of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL). Hart, who redshirted his freshman season with the Bobcats, leads the team with 27 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings while sporting a 2.36 earned run average. Hart has made four starts and three appearances out of the bullpen, holding a 1-1 record with one save.
The Aviators are 11-11, second place in the ACBL’s Hampton Division.
McVaney takes the field for the CCL All-Star Game at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the MLB Urban Youth Academy facility in Compton, CA. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports West. Rebroadcasts of the game will take place on Fox Sports affiliates throughout July and August.
The first pitch of the ACBL All-Star Game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Jack Kaiser Stadium on the campus of St. John’s University in New York.
