Texas State is holding its sixth annual Mathematics for English Language Learners (MELL) Conference through Saturday at the LBJ Student Center.
The university’s College of Education and the College of Science host the conference, which features 28 concurrent sessions for more than 360 attending educators who are committed to improving the instruction of ELL students in grades 5-12.
The participants include teachers, school district administrators, regional education service center staff members and university faculty members from across Texas.
The Mathematics for English Language Learners (MELL) initiative is a partnership between the Texas State University System, its component universities and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The multi-year effort is intended to develop instructional resources to increase the effectiveness of mathematics instruction for ELL students in K-12 schools and to enhance the preparation of teachers to better serve the needs of ELL students.
