PALS to give workshop on feral cat control

070710feralThe Trap, Neuter, Return, Maintain (TNRM) 101 workshop addresses solving the feral cat population problem.

STAFF REPORT

Prevent A Litter (PALS) of Central Texas will sponsor a free workshop on effectively dealing with feral cats on July 17 at the Corridor Business Center, 215 West San Antonio Street, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The workshop features the Trap, Neuter, Return, Maintain (TNRM) method, which can effectively and humanely diminish the feral cat population.  The TRNM process, including the loan of traps, low-cost spay neuter options and post-surgery recovery protocols will be covered in the workshop. The event will also feature tips and instructions on how to help solve cat nuisance problems and manage outdoor cat populations.

Free roaming cats are a major animal control issue, according to PALS, which adds that trapping and killing the cats is inhumane and does little to stop the outdoor feral cat population from increasing. Whether the cats are fed by concerned residents or ignored and left to starve, they will still reproduce without intervention. The workshop seeks to address the problem.

Those wishing to attend the TNRM 101 workshop are asked to RSVP to kate.h.shaw@gmail.com .
