Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for the this week (July 4-10) as announced by the City of San Marcos.
Cheatham Street: Closed at various locations for repair of wastewater mains this week. Construction will continue on Haynes Drive from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street and on Rio Vista Drive and McKinnon Street, both from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street, to install storm sewer, water and wastewater lines. Motorists need to be aware of various street closures until further notice. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Comanche Street: The center turn lane will be closed between Student Center Drive and Vista Street for excavation for utilities. Construction will continue through Aug. 10. Through traffic will be allowed, but motorists are asked to use caution through the construction area. Call Texas State at (512) 245-8691. Also, Comanche Street is closed to through traffic in segments from West MLK Drive to West Hopkins Street for construction of a new water line. The roadway between West MLK Drive and West San Antonio Street should be open to traffic as work begins between West San Antonio Street and West Hopkins Street. Traffic will be detoured to Fredericksburg Street, South Guadalupe Street, West Hutchinson Street, West Hopkins Street, West San Antonio Street and West MLK Drive to avoid the area. Craddock Avenue: Construction on the Craddock Avenue extension from Bishop Street to Wonder World Drive will continue through mid-July. The intersection of Bishop and Craddock is open, but future closure is anticipated for final overlay, milling and striping. Motorists should watch for heavy construction equipment at Wonder World Drive, Bishop Street and the park road at the end of Franklin Drive. Access to Purgatory Creek will be limited at the Craddock Avenue intersection due to asphault overlay. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
Downtown Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements: Construction has begun on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed, but the streets will remain open. East McCarty Lane: Construction continues on new roadway lanes, utilities and the bridge over Cottonwood Creek. Motorists are advised to use Clovis R. Barker Road or Centerpoint Road to avoid the area. Periodic road closures are anticipated during the summer months with completion scheduled for October or November. Ranch Road 12: On the nights of July 5-8, periodic road and lane closures will take place to complete the final overlay of an intersection in the 2400 block. Motorists are advised to prepare for delays as heavy trucks cross the roadway and asphalt is allowed to cure, with longest delays anticipated the night of July 5. Rain could delay this start date. Police officers and traffic controls will be used to enhance roadway safety and expedite the process. Construction will continue through July. San Antonio Street: Traffic is closed on the 100 block from North LBJ Drive to the alley every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for the Farmer’s Market on the Square. Call the city’s Main Street program at (512) 393-8430.
South LBJ Drive: East Hopkins Street to Grove Street will be resurfaced in phases to minimize impact on motorists. Construction will begin from East Hopkins Street to MLK Drive. The next phase will be MLK Drive to Grove Street. Project began June 22 with a scheduled completion date of July 9, weather permitting. Expect traffic delays with periodic lane closures. Weatherford Street: One lane will be closed due to lane widening, curb and gutter improvements until the third week in July. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
Wonder World Drive at Hunter Road: Open to traffic, but increased truck traffic and lane closures will continue as the final overlay is underway on the Wonder World Drive extension. Traffic control barriers are still in place and drivers are advised to be aware of construction workers and heavy equipment through the end of July.
