The Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has identified the drowning victim at Five Mile Dam Park Sunday afternoon as 18-year-old Jose De Jesus Renteria Contreras of Buda.
The investigation of the drowning continues.
The HCSO responded to a call at approximately 4:46 p.m., when responders learned that an 18-year-old white maile had attempted to swim from the east shore of the of the Blanco River, where the park is located, to the west shore. He was last seen going under near the west shore.
Kyle Fire Department (KFD) personnel went into the water using snorkeling gear in an attempt to locate the victim and asked for assistance from the San Marcos Area Recovery Team (SMART), which has personnel equipped with SCUBA gear.
Divers from the SMART team recovered the body about forty feet from the west bank at approximately 6:15 p.m. Hays County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Scott Cary was summoned to the scene and has ordered an autopsy in the case.
