Kickoff for Texas State’s 2010 football opener will be at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4, when the Bobcats go to Houston, the university announced Monday.

In each of the last two years, the Bobcats finished in the top 25 among Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) schools, according to both major polls. Now, the Bobcats enter 2010 nationally ranked by three major preseason publications. They are at No. 13 by Lindy’s, No. 21 by the FCS Now poll and No. 25 by Athlon Sports.

Following the Houston game, the Bobcats will play three straight home contests against Southern Arkansas (Sept. 11), Cal Poly (Sept. 18) and Southern Utah (Sept. 25).

Wide receiver Da’Marcus Griggs and offensive guard D.J. Hall both have been named honorable mention preseason selections by The Sports Network. Griggs caught 80 passes for 959 yards and eight touchdowns last season, when Hall was an all-Southland Conference selection. Hall has started in 24 straight games for Texas State.

The Bobcats also return linebacker Marcus Clark, who led the team in tackles last year with 99. Defensive end Ron Jackson led the team in quarterback sacks and defensive tackle Adley Eshraghipour was honorable mention in the Southland Conference last season.
