City announces road work for week

Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for the this week (June 6-June 12) as announced by the City of San Marcos.

Cheatham Street: Open for through traffic for the next several weeks. Construction will continue on Haynes Drive from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street and on Rio Vista Drive and McKinnon Street both from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street to install storm sewer, water and wastewater services. Motorists need to be aware of various street closures until further notice. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Comanche Street: Closed to through traffic in segments from West Hutchison Street to West MLK Drive for construction of a new waterline. Traffic will be detoured to Fredericksburg Street, South Guadalupe Street, West Hutchinson Street, West Hopkins Street, West San Antonio Street, and West MLK Drive to avoid the area. Construction will continue until further notice. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Craddock Avenue: Construction on the Craddock Avenue extension from Bishop Street to Wonder World Drive will continue through August. The intersection of Bishop and Craddock will be closed during construction.  To turn left on Bishop, detour left on Allen Street. To turn right on Bishop, continue straight and follow the cones. Motorists should follow detour signs and watch for heavy construction equipment at Wonder World Drive, Bishop Street and the park road at the end of Franklin Drive. Access to Purgatory Creek will be limited at the Craddock Avenue intersection due to asphault overlay. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Downtown Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements: Construction has begun on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed, but the streets will remain open. Scheduled for completion at the end of summer. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

East McCarty Lane:
Both lanes will be closed in each direction from the Interstate-35 frontage road to Old Bastrop Highway on June 7-12 from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. for utility construction. Motorists are advised to use Clovis R. Barker Road or Centerpoint Road to avoid the area. Construction of additional lanes began in April and is scheduled for completion scheduled for October or November. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Haynes Street: Closed to through traffic in different sections from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street for the installation of a new water line until the end of June. Motorists are advised to use C. M. Allen Parkway or Hopkins Street as possible detour routes. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Ranch Road 12: Traffic in the 2400 block is rerouted to the new permanent intersection configuration of Ranch Road 12 and Wonder World Drive. Traffic controls and overhead illumination are being used at the new intersection to enhance roadway safety and reduce traffic speed. Expect delays. Construction will continue until further notice. San Antonio Street: Traffic is closed on the 100 block from North LBJ Drive to the alley every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for the Farmer’s Market on the Square. Call the city’s Main Street program at (512) 393-8430.

Sessom Drive: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has begun resurfacing from University Drive to Academy Street. The project will include guardrail improvement, milling and overlay to create a smooth final surface with fresh striping. Final completion scheduled for early July. Weatherford Street:
One lane will be closed due to lane widening, curb and gutter improvements until the June. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Wonder World Drive at Hunter Road: Now open to traffic. Truck traffic will increase as the final overlay begins on the Wonder World Drive extension. Traffic control barriers are still in place. Be aware of construction workers and heavy equipment. Night crews will be working in the area, as well as along Hunter Road to Stagecoach Trail, to complete final surfacing.
