City begins Comanche water line work

City of San Marcos workers began installation of a new 12-inch water line on Comanche Street from West Martin Luther King Drive to West Hutchison Street on Friday.

This section of Comanche Street will be closed in segments to through traffic for the duration of the project.

Traffic will be detoured to Fredericksburg Street, South Guadalupe Street, West Hutchison Street, West Hopkins Street, West San Antonio Street and West Martin Luther King Drive to avoid the area.

Traffic controls will be placed on the roadway and construction crews will begin site preparation on Comanche Street at the West Martin Luther King Drive intersection. Excavation and trenching is scheduled to start next Monday, June 7.

Residents living in the construction zone will have access to all driveways and mailboxes during construction.

This utility line project is designed to improve service to residents and businesses on Comanche Street through replacement of a two-inch water line with the higher capacity 12-inch line. Haley Nelson Construction, LLC, of Marble Falls was awarded the $200,000 construction contract by the San Marcos City Council.
