STAFF REPORT

The Madcap Magic Summer Reading Kickoff,  starting off the summer reading program of the San Marcos Public Library, 625 East Hopkins Street, will be held on June 11. Marvelous and magnificent magician Kent Cummins will mystify participants with his magic at three free shows scheduled for 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

A free ticket is required for admission and will available to pick up at the library starting June 1.

Each child who attends a show, checks out books, and takes home a reading log will be entered in a special drawing for a $100 gift card to Walmart. The summer kickoff is sponsored by San Marcos Kiwanis, Grande Communications, Walmart, Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and Friends of the Library.

The library’s summer calendar is loaded with more than 80 free events taking place at the library during the months of July and August. Drop by the library to pick up a copy of the calendar or visit sanmarcostx.gov/library.htm.

Readers of every age from kids to teens to adults can pick up a summer reading log starting on June 7. Then, participants check out library books and keep track of their reading this summer. For every reading log turned in, the reader is registered to get a chance at cool prizes. The drawing will take place at the end of July.
