Bobcats send four to track and field regional

Texas State will send four track and field athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Region Championships to be contested this weekend at the University of Texas.

The Bobcats will send freshman Lisa Bingham and senior Valerie Hancock to compete in the high jump. Bingham won the event at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships with a height of 1.72 meters (5-07.75 feet). Hancock placed fourth at conference, but has a season-best height of 1.75m (5-08.50). The high jump will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Qualifying in the discus is senior thrower Katy Hanie, who earned the bronze medal at the Southland Conference meet with a distance of 45.10 meters (147-11). Hanie has a season-best throw of 49.16 meters (161-03). The discus is slated for noon on Friday.

Junior sprinter Kevin Aje will showcase his speed in the 100 meters. Aje sprinted to a personal best time of 10.43 in the 100-meter finals for a fifth place finish at the Southland Conference championships. The first round of the men’s 100-meter preliminaries is scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The top 12 in each event will advance to the national championships to be held June 9-12 in Eugene, OR.
