Updated: Man shot dead east of Buda

A man was shot dead early Sunday morning on the 100 block of Kai Vista Drive east of Buda. He has been identified as Kim Ivan Sparks, a 56-year-old black man of an address in Dale.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said the property owner lived in one of two residences on the property. A woman who was estranged from Sparks, her husband, lived in the other residence.

The HCSO received a call about the shooting at approximately 3 a.m. on May 16. On arriving, deputies learned the woman’s relationship with Sparks was such that she did not want him on the property or near her.

Sparks arrived on the property early Sunday morning, when the property owner, armed with a shotgun, met him and ordered him off the property. During their encounter, a shot was fired. The male subject was hit one time and emergency medical services (EMS) was called to the scene. The male was pronounced deceased.

Hays County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Scott Cary has ordered an autopsy in this case. The investigation in the early stages and continuing. An HCSO spokesperson said it appears that no charges will be  filed and the case will be presented to a Hays County Grand Jury for  review.
