San Marcos High School was the setting for the school district’s recent Honor Society Spelling Bee. which saw the participation of 128 elementary school students. Students were selected at their individual schools through testing before competing at the event.
Bowie Elementary School had the most participants at the competition, but Crockett Elementary School had the most winners with two.
Taking first place at their grade level were Crockett Elementary’s Taylor Brown in first grade and Phoenix Orta in second grade. Hernandez Elementary School’s Elena Gil took first place for third grade and Bowie Elementary’s Jacob Baggett won for the fourth grade. The fifth grade winner was Alina Alvarez from Mendez Elementary School.
The event was sponsored and hosted by the San Marcos High School National Honor Society.
