Longtime incumbent Peter Baen lost his District 5 seat on the San Marcos CISD school board in today’s very low turnout election.
Baen, who works at Thermon Manufacturing Co., won 103 votes to David Crowley’s 115 votes. Crowley is a former San Marcos CISD employee who is currently the Wimberley and Dripping Springs school district nutrition director.
Baen has run twice before unopposed after being appointed to the position in 2003 to fill a vacancy.
San Marcos school board elections are usually typified by abysmal turnout. In 2009, barely more than 2,000 people voted in an election for two at-large seats.
This is terrible news. What is wrong with this town??? The people who know better just don’t give a damn.
218 total votes. What is up with that?
Maybe they should send the ballots out in the same envelope they send our property tax bills in.
