STAFF REPORT
The Travis Elementary School Ballet Folklorico performed at several community sites in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Performances took place at Hernandez Elementary School, the “big” HEB store, the San Marcos CISD Central Office and Texas State.
The dancers are under the direction of Connie Perez.
Ballet Folklorico is a pastiche of dances both native to indigenous Mexican Indian tribes and imported from other cultures to Mexico. Each area of Mexico has its own costumes and dances. The wide range of influences include elements of the Arab, African, German, Dutch, and even Asian cultures. The result is moving, colorful performances that speak of the “melting pot” of Mexico.
