STAFF REPORT

Hernandez Elementary School fifth grader Hatta Misra recently competed as a semifinalist in the 2010 Texas National Geographic Bee. Misra received the honor by participating in a geography bee which was given in his school. The winners then submitted a written test to National Geographic to qualify for the semifinals.

The semifinals were held at the Pat May Center near Fort Worth. Misra was accompanied to the meet by Hernandez Horizons teacher Tiffany Elmore and his parents Aidil Misra and Rini Oktavia. While he did not make the finals, Misra was delighted by the experience.

Hernandez Principal Rosemary Garza said, “We are very proud of Hatta and the excellent way in which he represented Hernandez and San Marcos CISD.”

Misra said he likes going to school every day and he enjoys learning about all subjects. During his free time, he likes to read about different countries, watch the Travel Channel and explore web sites about geography on the computer.
