“Graduation Ball,” an amusing romp through a Viennese coed’s graduation dance, will be presented by the River City Ballet.
STAFF REPORT
The River City Ballet will perform “Graduation Ball” on May 1 at 8 p.m. at the EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens in Wimberley. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and are available online at www.rivercityballet.org. Tickets will also be available at the door.
“Graduation Ball” was originally created in 1940 by Russian-born choreographer David Lichine and is set to music by Johann Strauss II. The mini-ballet tells the story of the amusing antics that happen at a Viennese girl’s college graduation ball to which a group of young men from a neighboring military school are invited.
Accomplished dancers from area schools will perform in “Graduation Ballet,” including Larissa Ybarra and Samantha Huebner from Owen Goodnight Middle School, Carly Elizabeth Villareal and Lea Paulin from San Marcos High School (SMHS), Morgan Mitchell from Miller Middle School and Joanie Anderson from Hill Country Christian School. Other young artists from the area included in the production are Paige Perusquia from New Braunfels, Ella Martin-Gachot from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Wimberley, Rachel Swift from Wimberley, and Madeline Finchum from Barton Middle School in Kyle.
Texas State students who perform in the ballet include Ana Emilia Rodriguez, Orlando Moreno, and Alexis Edwards from San Marcos, Abram Garcia from Brownsville, Daniel Glaze from Leander and Chad Dunn from Mountain City.
Also featured at the event is a pre-performance art show and sale with pieces done by local artists supporting the ballet.
The River City Ballet is a non-profit organization providing opportunities, as Central Texas’ youth ballet, to young artists.
