City to offer tennis lessons, leagues


The City of San Marcos Community Services – Parks & Recreation Division has announced that several youth and adult tennis programs will now be available to San Marcos residents beginning in May.

But first, the Parks and Recreation Division, in conjunction with the Central Texas Tennis Academy, is offering free tennis to youth and adults from 5 to 6 p.m. this week, Monday through Thursday. The city welcomes anyone, youth or adult, who is curious about playing tennis or participating in an upcoming program, is welcomed and encouraged to attend. All equipment will be provided.

Adult and youth programs will begin on May 3. For children, start-up tennis is available. The program will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. through May. Cost is $35 per child.

For adults, tennis leagues will be available. Singles league play will take place on Monday, while doubles play will take place on Thursday. Cost for the adult tennis leagues is $45 per participant, per league.

The city will host an adult tennis tournament on May 22. Cost for participation in this event is $15 per division.

All programs will take place at the Rio Vista Tennis Courts, which opened a new complex in November 2009. For more information on any of these programs, please call the San Marcos Activity Center at (512) 393-8285.
