Bobcats hold softball league lead

STAFF REPORT

Though the Texas State softball team lost two of three at Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) during the weekend, the Bobcats actually made progress in the standings.

That’s because contender Stephen F. Austin (SFA) lost three to Central Arkansas, while contender Texas-Arlington (UTA) lost three to McNeese State. Thus, the Bobcats are 17-7 in the league, followed by SFA (16-8) and UTA (15-10).

UTSA won the rubber game of its series with the Bobcats Sunday, pounding out eight hits in a 7-1 victory. UTSA pitcher Emily Humpal held the Bobcats hitless through six innings.

The Roadrunners scored four runs in the first inning and Texas State starter Chandler Hall lasted only two innings, allowing five runs as her record fell to 15-11.

The Bobcats will complete their home schedule this coming weekend with a three-game series against Northwestern State at Bobcat Field. Saturday’s double header will begin at 1 p.m., with a single game to be played Sunday.
