STAFF REPORT
San Marcos has launched a beautification program and now has the banners to show it. The new “Keep San Marcos Beautiful” banners are now waving along Hopkins Street and in downtown San Marcos.
The beautification program has been established with hopes of encouraging the prevention of litter and the reduction of waste by focusing on education, responsibility, partnerships and volunteerism.
It would be great to add more cleanup to the program. There is a lot of broken glass on the roads, which also hinders efforts to become a “bicycle friendly” city and there are a lot of heavily trafficked roads, with a lot of litter on them. Perhaps we could have more frequent street sweeping and/or some cleanup work for probation and community service programs.
Every time it rains, all the toxic sludge that comes from cars gets washed into the San Marcos River.
