Bobcats take on Baylor in last non-conference baseball game

SUBMITTED REPORT

The Texas State baseball team is on its final stretch of its regular season schedule and the Bobcats will tackle yet another tough opponent this Wednesday when they host Baylor in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Bobcat Field.

The meeting marks the third this season between the two schools and Texas State will be in search of its first win over the squad in 2010.

Baylor hosted Texas State in its preseason QTI Classic tournament and the Bobcats dropped a 3-2 decision in the eighth inning. Texas State traveled back to Waco in early March and lost 12-3.

The Bobcats (21-13) hope to rebound from a tough 1-3 week with a win over the Bears. Last week, Texas State fell 6-5 to No. 4 Texas in the eighth inning and took only one-of-three games in a Southland Conference series with No. 23 Southeastern Louisiana. Despite the pair of losses, Texas State still clings to first place in the league, holding a one game lead over SLU with a 13-5 mark.

Baylor (21-14) went 2-3 this week, sweeping conference foe UT Arlington then dropping three-straight games to Kansas State in Big 12 play. The Bears scored just two runs in all three games and were held to less than six hits in each contest.

Wednesday will mark the 61st meeting for Texas State and Baylor with the Bears leading the all-time series, 44-16. The last victory for the Bobcats over the foe came April 22, 2009 in a 7-2 decision in Waco.

A radio broadcast can be heard for the game on 89.9 KTSW FM. GameTracker will be available, as well as in-game updates via Twitter.

Following Wednesday’s meeting with Baylor, Texas State will face a red-hot Northwestern State team in Southland action. The three-game series is set to begin Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
