Man in Buda fire identified

Public safety officials have released the name of the man taken by fire in his Buda garage last Saturday. Authorities are investigating the case as a homicide.

The Travis County Medical Examiners Office said the man who perished was Steven Wayne Woelfel, 55, the homeowner at 1132 Live Oak Loop, the scene of the fire.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Criminal Investigations Division and  Texas Ranger Jimmie Schroeder are investigating the case. No further information was released.

The Buda Fire Department (BFD) responded to the fire in Hays Country Oaks subdivision at approximately 10:50 a.m. on April 17. Firefighters found the detached garage at the location fully engulfed in flames. The body was discovered once the fire was extinguished.
