It's time for the annual elementary spelling bee

STAFF REPORT

The annual San Marcos CISD elementary school spelling bee will take place at the San Marcos High School (SMHS) cafeteria, 2601 East McCarty Lane, on Saturday. The event is for students in grades one through five who are public, private or home schooled.

The SMHS chapter of the National Honor society will host the spelling bee, which will be free thanks to their efforts.

Activities and snacks will be available to students as they wait for their grade level’s time for competition. Participants need to arrive 30 minutes early to sign in and prepare for the competition.

San Marcos CISD teachers have word lists available to aid students as they practice for the event. Interested students can get registration paperwork from the district’s elementary schools or from the registration book on the day of the contest.

The assigned times for “bee” participants is 9 a.m. for first grade, 9:30 a.m. for second grade, 10 a.m. for third grade, 10:30 a.m. for fourth grade and 11 a.m. for fifth grade.

More information about the National Honor Society or the spelling bee can be obtained by emailing www.smhshs@gmail.com.
