STAFF REPORT

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is providing free Health Talks at its upcoming 24th annual HealthCheck Community Health Fair & Screening event at the Embassy Suites on April 22 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

New CTMC facilities provides for Health Talks presented by physicians and other clinical professionals throughout the day.

The LoneStart Wellness Initiative is a new CTMC offering that with information on a new healthy lifestyle initiative. The behavior-based program provides participants with the opportunity, information, motivation and support to achieve their healthy lifestyle goals by overcoming inactivity and making better dietary choices.

“Two LoneStart programs have been offered to CTMC employees to date,” said Barry Tyler, manager of the CTMC Institute for Healthy Living. “Of the 96 who participated, total weight loss was 611 pounds. In addition, some participants have been able to reduce or eliminate prescription medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and to improve their ratio of body fat to lean muscle. All with a simple non-strenuous, non-starving, common sense approach to nutrition and activity offered by the program.”

Based on the success of the CTMC employee experience, CTMC began offering the LoneStart Wellness Initiative to the general public earlier this year. For more information on this program is available at a free seminar on April 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites.
