On April 23, the Texas State School of Music will host its first “Noche de Gala” at the Embassy Suites San Marcos Conference Center, 1001 McCarty Lane, in support of scholarships for mariachi students. The event will take place from 6-10 p.m. and is open to the public.
The evening will also support the annual “Feria del Mariachi” which is slated for April 30- May 1.
The event will start out with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and entertainment. A silent auction will take place at 8 p.m.
“The Texas State mariachi program is asking area businesses to help support the growth of ‘Feria del Mariachi’ by purchasing tickets to the gala,” said Noemi Govea of Texas State’s Special Projects Office. “Every year, the festival grows quite a bit, and we are sure that this year’s event will be a wonderful experience for students and visitors from all over the nation.”
Individual tickets for “Noche de Gala” are $50. Businesses may be table sponsors for $500.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting Mimi Govea or Gloria Velasquez. Govea can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling (512) 757-1726. Velasquez can be contacted at (512) 757-7567, or by email at email@example.com.
Those who cannot attend but wish to support the program can send donations to Texas State University, Feria Del Mariachi, 601 University Drive, San Marcos, TX 78666.
A two-day festival, “Feria del Mariachi” hosts students from middle schools and high schools, as well as colleges and universities, who participate in ensemble competitions and concerts. The event features special guests and performers, including a world famous mariachi artist who is awarded the “La Voz de Oro” lifetime achievement award.
