City announces road projects

Cheatham Street will be closed from Riverside Drive to Hopkins Street until the end of May for the installation of a wastewater line. City of San Marcos graphic.

Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for this week (March 28-April 3) as announced by the City of San Marcos.

Charles Austin Drive: Closed from Hopkins Street to the railroad tracks, noon to 11 p.m. on March 30 due a Texas State tailgating event and baseball game against Texas A&M. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Cheatham Street: Riverside Drive to Hopkins Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. for installation of a new wastewater line. Construction begins March 29 and continues until the end of May. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and use Haynes Street, Field Street, Sycamore Street or the Interstate-35 frontage road to avoid the area.  This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Comanche Street: W. Woods Street to Pat Garrison Street will be closed to through traffic for the installation of a new sewer line. Construction begins on March 29 and continues until April 21. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and use North Guadalupe Street, North Fredericksburg Street, Pat Garrison Street, W. Woods Street and North Street to avoid the area. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Ranch Road 12: Lane widths in the 2400 block will be reduced and shifted to allow construction of the next phase of Wonder World Drive in preparation for future tie-in to Ranch Road 12. There will be no shoulders. Drive carefully on narrow lanes and be aware of construction vehicles and workers in construction area. Traffic shift began on March 22 and construction will continue until further notice. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Haynes Street: 900 block at Riverside Drive closed to thru traffic through April 9, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., due to installation of new wastewater line. Motorists are advised to use Cheatham Street, C. M. Allen Parkway or Hopkins Street as possible detour routes. This is the beginning of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Sessom Drive: Storm drainage and street improvements from University Drive to Academy Street will last until early summer. Motorists are advised to watch for lane closures and construction crews. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Craddock Avenue: Construction on the Craddock Avenue extension from Bishop Street to Wonder World Drive will continue until May 2010. Motorists should watch for heavy construction equipment at Wonder World Drive, Bishop Street and the park road at the end of Franklin Street. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

Wonder World Drive: Now open to traffic at Hunter Road. Northbound motorist may make the right turn at Wonder World Drive rather than Stagecoach Trail, although there is still some signage up detouring trucks to Stagecoach Trail. Sidewalk is closed on Hunter Road at construction entrance until further notice. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
