Texas State’s softball team finished a three-game sweep of victories at Southeastern Louisiana with a 10-1 run-rule win (five innings) Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore pitcher Chandler Hall earned all three wins in the series, improving her record to 12-6. The Bobcats also beat Southeastern Louisiana in a Saturday double header by scores of 8-0 and 5-4.
The Bobcats continue their tussle with Stephen F. Austin (SFA) for the Southland Conference lead, improving to 12-3 in the league. SFA is 10-2 in the conference. The Bobcats are one-half game ahead, but SFA has the higher winning percentage, .833 to .800. Nicholls State is right with them at 11-4 in the conference.
Hall, Leah Boatright and Kristina Tello all had two hits Sunday. Jenna Emery drove in three runs with a single in the fourth inning, during which the Bobcats scored seven times.
The Bobcats won the first game of Saturday’s double header, 8-0, as Hall pitched a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts. McKenzie Baack went three-for-four, while Anna Hernandez drove in three runs.
Texas State won the second game of the Saturday double header in more dramatic fashion, scoring once each in the seventh and eighth innings for a 5-4 victory in extra innings. Hernandez homered to tie the game, 4-4, in the seventh. The Bobcats won with a two-out rally in the eighth, when Allyce Rother singled, the next two batters walked to load the bases and Tello reached on an infield error that allowed the winning run to score.
The Bobcats will play at Texas Wednesday before playing a three-game series at Central Arkansas during the weekend.Email | Print
