The Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) and Conley Car Wash & Express Lube, 1200 Thorpe Lane, will be hold a benefit “Celebrity Car Wash” Saturday.
From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 15 percent of every car wash and detail, as well as every full service oil change, will be donated to the HCWC. Local “celebrities” will help clean the cars, and the tips they receive will be directly donated to the center.
Some of the local celebrities slated to help include Hays County District Attorney Sherri Tibbe, San Marcos Mayor Pro Tem Kim Porterfield, San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) Assistant Chief Lisa Dvorak, City of San Marcos Director of Parks and Recreation Rodney Cobb, Century Link Operations Manager John Navarette, Frost Bank-San Marcos President John Schott, San Marcos City Manager Rick Menchaca, Hays County District Clerk Cecilia Adair, San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz, artist and author Ros Hill, Root Cellar owner Kyle Myleus, Olumpic gold hero of the high jump Charles Austin, Hays County Sheriff Tommy Ratliff, community leader Liz Tuttle, San Marcos CISD Trustee Judy Allen, Hays County Precinct 4 Commissioner Karen Ford and other surprise guests.
Tickets will also be sold all day to win a one-year basic car wash Membership to Conley Car Wash and Express Lube. Tickets will be priced $5 each or two for $8. The drawing will take place at 5:30 p.m. The winner need not be present at the drawing to win. Baked goods also will be on sale. The proceeds from the bake sale and ticket drawing will be donated directly to the center.
The HCWC has provided free and confidential assistance to men, women, and children who have been victims of family violence, sexual assault or child abuse since 1978, offering 24-hour crisis response as well as shelter, counseling, support groups, community education and prevention programs and the children’s advocacy center Roxanne’s House. HCWC’s mission, in the communities that it serves, is to create an environment in which abuse and violence aren’t tolerated.
