More than 400 sign up for EDSM Friday luncheon

More than 400 people are registered to attend the annual luncheon put on Economic Development San Marcos (EDSM), which is scheduled for Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at the City of San Marcos Conference Center.

The 2010 economic outlook topic is “Good Times, Bad Times: Which Is It?” John Duca, Vice President and Senior Policy Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will be the keynote speaker. Also scheduled to appear are three Texas State economists – Paul R. Gowens, James LeSage and David Beckworth — to discuss current economic conditions and trends.

The event is sponsored by Texas State’s McCoy College of Business Administration and the Small Business Development Center, Economic Development San Marcos, and the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce.

“People are anxious about the direction of the economy,” said William Chittenden, who chairs the Department of Finance and Economics at the McCoy College. “Many businesses are uncertain about hiring. The speakers at the luncheon will shed some light on what lies ahead. It should be a very interesting discussion.”

The event will be broadcast live on in a high definition feed tapping into Kulabyte and Media Design, both San Marcos-based companies.

“Last year we offered this service, and 300 internet visitors tuned in to the live feed broadcast, increasing actual viewers and attendees to over 600,” said EDSM Executive Director Amy Madison. “Texas State University students and other people who have limited time or resources are invited to join us again from cyberspace.”

To attend, contact the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce at (512) 393-5900. Tickets are $35 for the luncheon.
