Bobcats running out of time in women's hoops


The Texas State women’s basketball team remains barely in the hunt for a Southland Conference Tournament bid after its 85-71 loss at Lamar Saturday.

The Bobcats are tied with Nicholls State in the league basement at 1-10, 3 1/2 games behind eighth-place Southeastern Louisiana, which is 4-6 in the league. The Bobcats have five games remaining, the next coming Thursday at Strahan Coliseum against Nicholls (7 p.m.).

Texas State is 5-17 overall.

Lamar, the league leader at 9-1 (19-5 overall) tore to a 34-15 lead 13 minutes into the game and maintained double-digit leads for the rest of the game. The Cardinals expanded their lead to 24 points, 81-57, with 5:49 remaining.

Lamar’s Darika Hill led all scorers with 23 points, while teammate Jenna Plumley finished with 17 points and 13 assists.

Aimee Hilburn led Texas State with 15 points, followed by Kelsey Krupa with 14. Victoria Davis went double-double for the Bobcats, ending with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
