Two areas of San Marcos experienced power outages last weekend after two vehicles crashed into and broke electric utility poles in separate incidents.
The first power outage happened Saturday around 1:30 a.m. when a car swerved to avoid another vehicle and struck an electric pole in the 400 block of Uhland Road. About 120 residents in the area of Siesta Mobile Home Park lost power.
City Electric Utility workers worked through the night and restored power at 7:40 a.m. No injuries or citations were reported in the wreck.
A second power outage affected more than 600 customers early Sunday when a vehicle struck a pole at the intersection of Leah and McKinney Drives when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The driver was transported by EMS to Central Texas Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No citations were issued.
The broken pole tripped a breaker at the Redwood Substation on Wonder World Drive.
The initial outage left approximately 600 residential customers and 20 commercial customers without power. Electric Utility workers responded to the outage and restored power to 371 residential customers within an hour and to an additional 246 customers by 4:30 a.m. at University Club Apartments and portions of Red Oak Village shopping center.
Power was restored to the rest of commercial customers in Red Oak Village by 11:30 a.m.
