Rio Vista residents invited to neighborhood meeting

SUBMITTED REPORT

Residents of Rio Vista Terrace are invited to a public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at the Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, to learn about neighborhood improvements about to begin.

The Capital Improvements Department is embarking on the Rio Vista Neighborhood Improvements Project that will provide new waterlines, new wastewater lines, storm drains, streets, curbs and sidewalks.

About 300 families live in the neighborhood as well as some 25 businesses. The City has completed two initial phases and is preparing to undertake a two-year project to complete the improvements.

Construction by Texas Sterling Construction Company will begin in March and be completed in 2012.

“We are excited about getting the Rio Vista project underway after two years of preliminary work and many years of planning,” said David Healey, CIP director. “This project will bring important improvements to a significant neighborhood in San Marcos.”

The meeting will cover details on the work, the construction schedule and offer residents the opportunity to ask questions about the project.

Rio Vista includes Cheatham Street from Hopkins to Riverside, Haynes, Field, Sycamore, Rio Vista, McKinnon and Riverside Drive. Improvements will be made from the I-35 frontage road to the railroad tracks. Total cost of the project is $9.3 million.

For information, contact Capital Improvements at 512-393-8130.
