Rhea’s (pronounced Ray’s) Homemade Ice Cream will have its grand opening Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at its location at 318 North LBJ. The event will have samples available of some very unique flavors, including Rhea’s prize winning Avocado Coconut, Big Red, Soy Coffee and Cotton Candy, just to name a few.
Rhea Ortamond is a graduate of Texas State who earned a degree in fashion merchandising without losing her passion for making ice cream. She dreamed of making ice cream for a living and started out by selling specialty flavors to local restaurants, including Cool Mint Cafe’ and the Root Cellar.
When she placed second (a Food Network celebrity placed first) in the 2009 Austin Ice Cream Festival, she decided to take the next step.
The shop will open its doors for regular business hours Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m-9 p.m., starting January 19.
Rhea’s Homemade Ice Cream will feature, traditional flavors, as well, serving ice cream in homemade waffle cones or compostable cups.
This grand opening (7pm-9pm tonight) sounds like a blast. What a neat addition to the local scene!

I love Rhea’s Ice Cream! I went to the opening party and her unique flavors knocked my socks off. Her bacon maple, a must try, left me craving more. The combination of flavors she comes up with are absurdly delicious!
