The Texas State men’s and women’s track and field teams open up the 2010 season Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
The afternoon session starts at 1 p.m. in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, with evening session track finals set to begin at 5 p.m.
This will be the first of five indoor meets for the Bobcats before the Southland Conference Championships on Feb. 27-28.
Teams competing in the A&M Invitational are Texas A&M, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Houston Baptist, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Northwestern Louisiana, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Texas State, Texas-Arlington and Texas Christian.
Texas State is coming off an outdoor season that saw three athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, while Kemuel Morales won All-American honors.
Senior Valerie Hancock will compete in the high jump for Texas State after taking fourth in the event at A&M last year with a height of 1.72 meters (5-07.75). Joining Hancock in the event for Texas State is fellow NCAA Championship qualifier Katie Evans, who placed 15th last year.
Texas State’s Asiya Iskakova took fourth in the triple jump at last year’s invite with a bound of 12.54 meters (41-01.75).
For the Texas State men, Dmitri Kabakov returns for his senior season after tying for seventh in the pole vault last year with a height of 4.61 meters (15-01.50). Andy Ysebaert took 13th in the shot at the meet with a mark of 15.46 meters (50-08.75). The Texas State men’s and women’s teams both placed 12th at the A&M Invitational last year.
