Miguel Arredondo, the San Marcos High School Student responsible for initiating the revival of Student Government Day, was given a key to city and a proclamation from San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz recognizing his leadership.

Arredondo was the catalyst for a cascade of cooperative efforts to reinstate the day when he selected it as a Distinguished Achievement Project for Independent Study Students.

Arredondo coordinated the effort that included 30 participating students taking part in mock city council, school board and county commissioners meetings. The cooperative support included the San Marcos City Council, Texas State University Associated Student Government and the San Marcos High School Student Council.
