The new tennis courts have benches, windscreens and more.
The grand opening of the Rio Vista Tennis Courts will be celebrated with the ceremonial cutting of a tennis net at 9 a.m. Saturday. The city invites the public to attend.
San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz, City Councilmembers and Hays County officials will be there to dedicate the $614,126 project, located at Rio Vista Park, 555 Cheatham Street.
“We are delighted to be re-opening the tennis courts, the only public tennis courts in San Marcos,” Narvaiz said. “This long-awaited project will provide great facilities for tennis players of all ages in our community.”
The new facility boasts six concrete tennis courts, player shade canopies, benches, spectator benches, windscreens, a practice backboard, a water fountain, a bicycle rack and a perimeter irrigation system.
The new courts replace those originally built 35 years ago with a grant from the H-E-B Tennis Foundation in 1974. The project was funded by $414,126 from the City of San Marcos and $200,000 in Hays County park bonds.
The courts were designed by Land Design Partners of Austin designed and constructed by Thomas N Thomas of San Marcos. The geotechnical firm was Kleinfelder of Austin. Wide Lite provided special lighting for the new courts, which now have three levels of lighting for players.Email | Print
