San Marcos Firefighter Mark Bomar accepts the “Firefighter of the Year” medal and award from Lou Colantoni of the Sons of the American Revoluton (SAR).
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), William Hightower Chapter #35, recently honored San Marcos firefighter Mark Bomar as Firefighter of the year. The award and medal were given to Bomar at the SAR’s annual meeting honoring police and firefighters on Nov. 17.
Bomar joined San Marcos Fire Rescue (SMFR) in November of 2006. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Niagra University in New York and is an EMT-Basic. He has completed his Firefighter I and II and Hazardous Materials Technician certifications. Bomar and his wife Ashleigh reside in Driftwood.
Assistant Fire Chief Len Nored said, “He leads by example, involving his fellow firefighters in physical fitness, weight lifting and healthy eating. He is a driving force behind his shift’s increased level of physical fitness. He is a positive motivator, encouraging his piers to learn leadership skills by reporting on books he is reading.”
Bomar’s fellow firefighters elected him Firefighter of the Year in 2008.
