The city council will consider an ordinance on second and final reading prohibiting the use of compression release brakes in the city limits. The brakes are used in large diesel trucks to trap pressure in the engine to slow down the truck on steep hills. The brakes can be noisy, city officials say, and create a safety issue for adjacent motorists and pedestrians.
